SIPS: Getting better all the time
The Beatles sang about “getting so much better all the time”. So perhaps Getting Better by Paul McCartney and John Lennon should be the theme song of Open Science? (Although some of the lyrics would need to be expunged…)
Bob is right that exciting things are happening just about every day. A couple of days ago the Society for the Improvement of Psychological Science took a great step forward when the election was announced of its first Executive Committee. Fully 614 people voted, from around the world.
A really interesting feature of the Society is that its executive must be diverse. The EC comprises 3 graduate students or post docs, 3 faculty from teaching intensive institutions, and 3 faculty from research institutions. The interests of students and teachers are thus well-represented, alongside those of researchers, which seems to me to auger well for SIPS.
SIPS already has a heap of projects underway, and its next meeting will be July 30 to Aug 1 2017 at the Center for Open Science in Charlottesville, VA.
Be encouraged to join the mailing list—there is no ‘membership’ yet. And watch out for new opportunities for student involvement in replication, and other good things. You, too, can participate in science getting better all the time.
